HEADLINERS THIS WEEK:

JONATHAN WALD, who has been executive producer of "Nightly News" for nine months, is taking over the same role on "Today." He replaces Jeff Zucker, who was appointed NBC entertainment president in December. Also at NBC, STEVE CAPUS is taking over as executive producer of Tom Brokaw's nightly newscast. He's been the top producer of Brian Williams' one- hour newscast on MSNBC. Veteran NBC executive DAVID CORVO was named executive producer on Tuesday of "Dateline NBC," after being a vice president of NBC News since 1995.

The San Francisco Chronicle has chosen five editors for top positions at the daily. NARDA ZACCHINO was named senior editor after more than 30 years as a reporter and editor at the Los Angeles Times. ANDREW ROSS the co-founder of Salon.com and its first managing editor, was named associate editor of content. KENN ALTINE will become editor of the Sunday Chronicle. He has been a consultant for the paper for the past six months, and was interim business editor. MI-AI PARRISH was named associate editor of the Sunday Chronicle. Parrish was the Arizona Republic's Sunday editor before becoming deputy managing editor for features. KENNETH HOWE was named business editor. He has worked at the paper for 14 years.

Joseph Lelyveld is retiring as executive editor of The New York Times in September and will be replaced by HOWELL RAINES, editor of the editorial page.

PC World announced the promotion of SUSAN GREEN to Western Advertising Director, advancing from Southwest Advertising Director.

TIM MURRAY has joined National Cable Communications (NCC) as a Sales Manager based in New York. Murray comes to NCC from 180Solutions, an Internet marketing agency, where he served as Director of Sales, East Coast. Also at NCC, DEAN DILTZ has joined on as Manager of Corporate Communications. Diltz comes to NCC from thePit.com, a sports collectibles web site, where he served as Vice President, Media Relations.

GREG SIANO as been promoted to Sr. Vice President - Executive Media Director at Tierney Communications in Philadelphia, a True North Company. He has been elevated from VP Associate Media Director at Tierney, a position that he has held since 1997.

PlanetHollywood.com has promoted KEITH SALWOSKI from Site Editor to Vice President of Marketing and Content.

Forefront Inc. announced that SEAN BLACK of Grey Direct's E. Media Group, Vice President, Interactive Media Director, joined an advisory board which has been assembled to guide the company in the development of CyberSpot, Rich Media, and Internet Advertising.

At Primedia, BOB DAVIDOWITZ was promoted to Group Publisher of American Baby Group, CFO LAWRENCE RUTKOWSKI was named Executive of the Year by Institute of Management Accountants, and DAVID BELL, Chair and CEO of True North Communications, was elected to Primedia's Board of Directors.

JANE MCCANN has joined Dudnyk Healthcare Group, a healthcare advertising agency, as an account supervisor. She brings 13 years of experience on the client side in managed-care markets, having held positions of escalating responsibility at Aetna/USHealthcare.

Carol Davis has joined the media management division of Spurrier Media Group. Davis was previously a broadcast supervisor at Arnold Worldwide.

OmniNet Media announced that DON A. STEFFENS will lead the company in the capacity of chief executive officer. Steffens has 25 years of executive management experience as president/CEO, chief financial officer and chief operational officer of several public and private corporations.

Media Revolution announced that it has appointed former Citysearch.com general manager GERARD LAFOND as its new vice president of marketing and business development.

FutureBrand announced STEPHANIE OTTO has been named Executive Director of the FutureBrand Media & Entertainment practice. Otto comes to FutureBrand from Pittard Sullivan, a global marketing communications company, where she served as the Executive Vice President of the Interactive & Convergent Media group in Los Angeles.

, a digital partner for media and entertainment companies, announced that it has started a new division named television. The group will be led by WIN PENISTON who joins from Pittard Sullivan, where he held the position of Senior Vice President and Managing Director in the company's New York offices. Peniston joins the firm in the role of Vice President. television will also include AARON KING who joins from Pittard Sullivan, where he last served as Broadcast Creative Director. JULIE KLAPPAS, who is currently a Creative Director of and JEFF BAUMGARDNER, Entertainment producer, will round out the talent in the new unit.

SCOTT R. MOORE joins Interplay as Sales Director. He comes from Ad Pepper Media International, where he was National Accounts Manager.

EDWARD J. MENICHESCHI has been named president of WWD MediaWorldwide. He has served as a sales and marketing consultant at Fairchild to WWD.com, which launches September 10. Also at WWD MediaWorldWide, LYNETTE HARRISON has been promoted to vice president and group publisher. She previously served as group publisher of WWD, its spinoff titles and Children's Business.

PETER JUREW has been named associate publisher in charge of marketing of The New Yorker. He was executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Powerful Media.

LEE SLATTERY has been named associate publisher of advertising at Glamour magazine. She comes from Allure, where she served as associate publisher. Also at Glamour, GEOFF MARESCA joins as national sales manager after working as the national advertising director at Expedia Travels. CYNTHIA MCKNIGHT has been hired as the Los Angeles director at Glamour. She previously served as the Los Angeles manager at Allure. CYNTHIA CARROLL has been named fashion director at Glamour. She had spent time as fashion director at Allure, as well. STEPHANIE ZACHARIAS joins Glamour as account manager. She served as account manager at Marie Claire and Allure.

BRUCE THOMAS has been appointed vice president of the new integrated marketing department at A&E Networks. He had been senior vice president of sales for online media advertising and sales provider One Media Place.

REID ASHE has been named president and chief operating officer at Media General Inc. after working as publisher and president of Media General paper The Tampa Tribune. MARSHALL N. MORTON will now become vice chairman at Media General. He had formerly served as the Tribune's chief financial officer and senior vice president.

SHARI LINKER has been hired as Eastern regional vice president of sales at Premier Retail Networks. She most recently launched the consumer and trade web site Healthwell.com.

JAMI OPINSKY has been named advertising director for Vanity Fair. She most recently served as the advertising director for Ladies Home Journal.

DAVID CORVO has been named executive producer of "Dateline NBC." He has served as vice president at NBC News since 1995. Also at "Dateline," MARC ROSENWASSER has been promoted to executive editor of the show and executive producer of all primetime documentaries from Tom Brokaw. He's served as senior broadcast producer for eight years.

BRUCE HAYNES has joined advertising agency Doner as vice president and media manager of national broadcast. Haynes spent 13 years at Campbell-Ewald in Warren, Mich., most recently serving as vice president and associate director of strategic communications planning for Chevy Truck.
