Thomas M. Kelley succeeds Mary Ellen Peters as senior vice president of marketing, at Marathon Oil Corp effective Jan. 1.

Peters succeeds J. Douglas Sparkman, who is retiring, as senior vice president, transportation and logistics.

Kelley has been at Marathon since 1981, his entire career. In his new role, he will be responsible for all aspects of Marathon's brand, wholesale, specialty chemicals and asphalt marketing, including a network of approximately 4,600 Marathon-branded retail outlets in 17 states, primarily in the Midwest and Southeast.

He assumed his current role of director, crude supply and logistics in January 2008, and has been responsible for all of Marathon's domestic and international crude oil supply and crude oil trading activities that support Marathon's network of seven U.S. refineries.

Between 1981 and 1995, Kelley held several positions of increasing responsibility in the marketing organization, and in 1995 he was appointed manager, product acquisition. He subsequently served as manager, wholesale marketing and then division manager, brand marketing until being named to his current position.--Tanya Irwin
