JCPenney's Afterschool 'Round Up' Nets $4.7 Million

  • January 5, 2010
JCPenney says its customers donated $4.7 million in 2009 for local afterschool programs, by agreeing to "round up" their purchase prices during three 10-day campaigns.

The Plano, Tex.-based retailer says that's a 14% jump from prior year donations, and demonstrates a commitment to local giving -- funds are distributed to afterschool programs in 1,100 communities where JCPenney has a store, including those at Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA and 4-H programs.--Sarah Mahoney
