Mug Root Beer is leaning
into 1990s nostalgia with a popular current hip-hop artist in a new campaign for its first limited-edition flavor.
To launch Mug Root Beer Floats Vanilla Howler, the soda maker has teamed up
with hip-hop’s Yung Gravy, who stars in a new video for “Float Float Baby,” seen here.
For the video of the track,
which is a parody of the early 1990’s classic “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice, Gravy also partners with Mug Root Beer’s mascot “Dog” (actually a man in a dog head
costume). In the 1:15 video a faux fur coat-clad Gravy and Dog are asked to fetch “floats” for a pool party, showing up with actual poolside inflatables along with packs of Mug Root Beer
Floats Vanilla Howler.

The parody song features such lines as “Grab a mug and listen. Dog is off the leash with the summer edition…. Hit the taste buds rightly. Cream sauce smooth
to the daily and nightly.”
“For Mug's first-ever limited-edition flavor, we knew we had to have some fun with it,” said Michael Smith, vice president of marketing, Mug Root
Beer, in a release. “Mug Floats Vanilla Howler takes the classic root beer float and makes it bigger, bolder and a little more unexpected — and Yung Gravy was the perfect partner to help
us turn that same energy into a one-of-a-kind summer anthem.”
Customers can purchase a Mug Root Beer Floats Vanilla Howler poolside float bundle, which includes a “Float Float
Baby” inner tube floatie, inflatable beach ball with the face of mascot Dog, along with a 12-pack of Mug Floats Vanilla Howler, for $16 through the brand’s Tik Tok shop while supplies
last.
