Tightlipped on most issues, Apple has been very public about the early success of the iPad. The company sold its 1,000,000th tablet device on Friday -- right before selling Number 1,000,001 -- and a mere 28 days after its debut on April 3. "That's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone," Steve Jobs bragged in a statement.

"Demand continues to exceed supply and we're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers." What Jobs didn't mention, according to Fortune, is that fact that customers bought the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS -- which were released both in the U.S. and overseas -- even more quickly. Apple sold a million units of each in the space of three days, Fortune says. Also, according to Apple, developers have so far created more than 5,000 apps for the iPad, while iPad owners have downloaded more than 12 millions apps, and over 1.5 million books.
