Lexus Promotes Green Fashion With Eco Challenge

  • November 2, 2010
Lexus is partnering with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) on a sustainable fashion program, the "Eco Fashion Challenge." The program, with a goal of increasing sustainable practices in the fashion industry, has ten finalists, from whom three designers will be selected to receive support from Lexus for their Fall 2011 show or presentation in February 2011.

The ten Eco Fashion Challenge Finalists are: Alabama Chanin, Behnaz Sarafpour, Costello Tagliapietra, Libertine by Johnson Hartig, Marcia Patmos, Maria Cornejo, Monique Péan, Organic by John Patrick, Slow and Steady Wins the Race by Mary Ping, and Subversive Jewelry by Justin Giunta.

To qualify as a finalist, each designer had to demonstrate a commitment to ecologically responsible design and production practices, with a minimum of 25% of their collection being produced in an environmentally friendly manner.

The ten finalists – representing womenswear, menswear, and accessories – will then present their Fall 2011 collection to a panel of judges. Each will be featured on Lexus Hybrid Living (lexushybridliving.com), which will also include a "People's Choice" award feature, allowing viewers to vote for their favorite designer submission.
