Scripps, 'Esquire' Transform Bachelor Pad

Bachelor-Pad

Hearst and Scripps Networks have a partnership on Food Network Magazine. Now, they have cooked up something for outside the kitchen. Scripps' home improvement DIY Network will air a special Jan. 6 in partnership with Esquire, demonstrating the conversion of a space into a knockout bachelor pad.

The space is one massive pad -- a whole house has been transformed into a man cave.

Tabbed "Esquire's 2010 Ultimate Bachelor Pad," DIY personality Amy Matthews will host the show that reveals the turning of the 9,000-square-foot Hollywood home into a pad. The conversion had help from an "elite group of contractors" and well-known L.A. design wizards.

The Hearst-Scripps partnership also extends, at least in part, to the pages of Esquire with a story on a startling home in the January issue. The special also looks at some of the homes that Esquire has featured over the years. There is also a co-branded DIY-Esquire sweepstakes to win a bachelor getaway.

Highlights of the bachelor getaway include a recording studio and media room, which Matthews, a contractor herself, crafted. There is also a waterfall fireplace and "virtual reality flying simulator."

At the end of the one-hour special, the pad gets some appealing company. A charity event is held there with celebrities Sienna Miller, Lance Bass, Kate Bosworth and Felicity Huffman.
