New 'Philadelphia Inquirer' Editor: Wischnowski

Stan-Wischnowski

A 10-year veteran of The Philadelphia Inquirer has been named editor. Stan Wischnowski, serving as acting editor since October 8 when the Philadelphia Media Network acquired The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com, is tapped for the top spot.

Greg Osberg, publisher and CEO of Philadelphia Media Network, stated that Wischnowski will be charged with "introducing new content in the paper early next year" and working closely with Philly.com "to launch several exciting interactive experiences on the various platforms within PMN."

Wischnowski's appointment was greeted with applause in the Inquirer newsroom; he has been lauded for his collaborative style. He held the title deputy managing editor/operations and vice president for shared services before his appointment.

He is the fifth editor of the newspaper in the last 10 years. His successor, William K. Marimow, a two-time Pulitzer Prize Winner, returned to investigative reporting.

During this tenure, Wischnowski organized the paper's election coverage and several special sections, won a national page design award for the paper's 9/11 coverage and served as chair of the paper's 2006 newsroom reorganization committee. He was also selected for the Knight-Ridder Leadership Program.

On the digital front, Wischnowski helped develop a multimedia and integration strategy for PMN in collaboration with the lead editors for the Daily News and Philly.com.

Before this, Wischnowski was acting managing editor at the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and worked at The Detroit News.

The Philadelphia Media Network reaches an average weekly audience of 2.2 million adults.
