Poll: Weddings Get More Social

  • January 14, 2011

In its fifth annual "What's on Brides' Minds" survey, David's Bridal reports that brides are increasingly relying on the Internet to make their day special, with 48% updating their Facebook page with their new name and relationship status within a day of taking their vows, and 44% hoping to get a little YouTube attention, whether it's a choreographed dance down the aisle or first dance.

And 78% say they plan to make their weddings more environmentally conscious, including paperless wedding invitations. While financial worries aren't as pronounced as they were --only 54% say they have decreased their wedding budget due to the economy, compared to 68% in the previous year -- 45% say they plan to spend less than $10,000. And 32% of say their top economic priority, aside from the wedding, is saving for a down payment on a house, compared with 24% of couples in 2010.
