Garnier Makes Leap To Recyclables

  • April 11, 2011
Garnier is out to remake the beauty industry's ugly reputation in recycling, and says it has signed an exclusive partnership with TerraCycle, and will draft consumers into a Personal Care and Beauty Brigade to collect recyclables. Currently, the L'Oreal-owned brand says personal care and beauty products account for one-third of all landfill waste.

For every unit of waste collected, the company says it plans to contribute two cents to the charity of the individual's choice, and that TerraCycle will repurpose all the collected packaging into eco-friendly playgrounds across the U.S.

The brand has also begun rolling out greener products, including Garnier Fructis Pure Clean -- a biodegradable shampoo and conditioner that contain no silicone, paraben or dye. The product is bottled in PET, the most widely recycled plastic, and include 50% post consumer recycled plastics.
