Roll 'Em: Hulu Partners With Miramax

On the heels of a similar deal with Netflix, Hulu has partnered with Miramax to distribute hundreds of movies to both paying and non-paying consumers.

Members of Hulu Plus, the video hub's subscription service, will now have access to Miramax's full film library, including "Pulp Fiction," "Good Will Hunting," "Scream" and "Swingers." In addition, Hulu will offer select films via its central, ad-supported service.

"Making our films available via premium digital distribution channels is extremely important to Miramax," said Mike Lang, CEO of Miramax.

Marking its first content deal with a digital subscription service, Miramax last month agreed to distribute "several hundred" movies through Hulu Plus rival Netflix.

Beyond his general optimism, however, Lang isn't saying much about Miramax's digital plans.

Earlier this year, amid rumors the studio had a Netflix deal in the works, The Wall Street Journal reported that Miramax was also in talks with Amazon and Facebook to bring its streaming library to those services.

Miramax on Wednesday declined to address those rumors. Moreover, neither Amazon nor Facebook spokespersons would comment on a potential Miramax tie-up.

Last month, the Miramax deal was seen as a huge win for Netflix in its war against Hulu and other streaming media rivals.

This is just the latest content deal for Netflix. The company recently signed a multi-year deal with Lionsgate to bring select programming to the instant streaming service. CBS and Disney have also signed multi-year agreements with Netflix.

Per this latest deal, Hulu Plus subscribers will be able to watch Miramax movies in HD and on multiple platforms, including TV, tablet, computer and mobile phones.

Hulu, meanwhile, plans to rotate a selection of about 15 Miramax films each month through Hulu.com with periodic ad breaks, representing the first time Miramax titles have become available through an ad-supported streaming service.
