Gaming Spending Increases

Gaming is continuing to be a growth segment for consumers.

According to the NPD Group, spending on video games, gaming hardware and gaming accessories hit $5.9 billion in the first quarter of 2011, a 1.5% increase over the same period last year. According to the market research company, consumers spent just over $2 billion on new console games and PC game software. Consumers spent an additional 1.85 billion on used games, game rentals, subscriptions, game downloads and downloadable content, mobile games and social games, according to the company.
