MGM Taps Finberg As EVP, Marketing

Doug-Finberg

The revamping of movie studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer continues with the hiring of a chief marketing executive, Doug Finberg, who will become executive vice president of marketing.

He had been executive vice president of international marketing for Marvel Studios, helping to push "Iron Man 2" to strong results for worldwide film distributor Paramount Pictures. Finberg has also worked on "Thor," "Captain America" and "The Avengers."

In addition to leading all of MGM's marketing, media, and creative chores, Finberg will also head up the studio's publicity efforts.

Most recently, Finberg headed up his own shop, Finberg Worldwide. He has also held positions at Paramount Pictures International, Dreamworks SKG, and Universal Pictures International.

The Finberg announcement comes after marketing veteran Michael Vollman left in July after three years at the studio. Under new chief executives Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, MGM has not had a full slate of U.S.-distributed movies that required full-time U.S. marketing efforts. But MGM holds international rights for a number of films.

The studio released only one movie in 2009 in the U.S. -- "Fame" -- and another in 2010: "Hot Tub Time Machine."
