WikiLeaks Suspends Publishing, Cites Financial Blockade By Visa, MasterCard

WikiLeaks has suspended publishing, “whilst we secure our economic survival,” the Web-based non-profit whistleblower said in a statement on its now-dormant site. “For almost a year we have been fighting an unlawful financial blockade. We cannot allow giant U.S. finance companies to decide how the whole world votes with its pocket. Our battles are costly. We need your support to fight back. Please donate now.”

The statement was an allusion to big credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard, which began blockading donations by their card holders to WikiLeaks last year after the U.S. government criticized it for leaking sensitive U.S. diplomatic cables.
