Mobile TV Group Adds Univision

The Mobile Content Venture (MCV) on Tuesday announced that Univision had joined the coalition of broadcasters launching a national mobile TV service through the Spanish-language network’s local stations in Los Angeles and Miami. The step allows viewers in the two largest Hispanic markets who have MCV’s “Dyle” mobile application to watch live Univision progamming on their mobile devices. Dyle is the consumer brand MCV selected this summer for its mobile TV offering.

MCV includes 12 broadcast groups that aiming to deliver the video service nationally, which would include live news and sports and other programming as well as on-demand opportunities.

Station groups that are part of MCV are Gannett, Belo, Scripps and Meredith and several others that have formed Pearl Mobile, LLC. Fox, Ion and NBC are also members of the group.

MCV this year expects to line up mobile video content from more than 72 stations in 32 markets, reaching half the U.S. population. It will roll out a Dyle mobile TV consumer beta in the first half of 2012. The group has previously announced partnerships with manufacturers including Dell and Samsung, to deploy MCV-compatible devices with a digital TV tuner to receive live broadcast television. MCV is also developing Dyle apps for major mobile platforms such as iOS and Android.
