"Everyone hates home page takeovers now," according to Gene Paek, VP interactive services for Factory Design Labs. I suppose that could be true -- but I'm curious to hear what readers think. To the extent that I hate home page takeovers, it probably just reflects my dislike of advertising in general... which is a recurring theme of today's conference. Gary Nelson, creative director at SapientNitro, asked, "Have you ever gone online and actually sought out an ad?" The answer, obviously, is no. Similarly, earlier in the day Adam Kasper, EVP of Havas Digital, reminded the audience that "no one actually likes advertising." I wonder how often advertisers should be reminded of that basic and unavoidable fact, because (except for those vanishingly rare bits of genius) it seems like an iron law of media psychology to me.
