Golf Digest has teamed with popular golfing app GolfLogix to offer a more personalized, interactive
version of the magazine for smartphones. Golf Digest Live will combine the the GPS and stat-tracking capability of GolfLogix with content including articles, tips, videos and a customized My Golf
Digest.
Golf Digest Live collects data from a player's round to produce an analysis
including a detailed scorecard, analytics and My Golf Digest, which includes a graphically-rich statistical breakdown, suggested drills and Golf Digest articles from top instructors and PGA Tour pros.
Some
magazine content is available during play, such as rules videos, golf jokes and common tips, but is mostly geared to using at
the range or at home to improve one's game. Golf Digest Live is offered as an in-app purchase exclusively within GolfLogix, which has had 1.75 million downloads to date and provides GPS distances for
30,000 courses. Following a 30-day trial, it costs $19.99 annually with an unlimited number of personalized issues.
Initial sponsors include Farmer's
Insurance and Nike. The launch of Golf Digest Live comes a day after Conde Nast rolled out GQ Live, an app delivering augmented reality for select content and ads in the magazine's September issue.
The print-to-mobile extensions include videos, 3D modeling and e-commerce shopping via ads.
