Social media marketing platform HootSuite has announced a developer program that gives third-party developers the chance to make money from subscription-based apps. In addition to free titles in its app directory, the company recently launched premium apps starting with offerings from Salesforce.com, Statigram and YouTube.
The Salesforce app, for instance, costs $4.99 a month and lets users create leads from social profiles in HootSuite streams, update information for existing leads, and look up lead records in Salesforce based on social profile data. HootSuite will share app revenue with developers, but didn’t disclose the split.
Besides the ability to monetize apps, the developer program provides resources including an SDK, administrative dashboard, and code samples, and marketing support. HootSuite says more than 600,000 apps have been installed through its system over the last 15 months.
