Campaign Asks Olympics To Keep Wrestling

With their sport possibly falling out of the Olympics, USA Wrestling and a related advocacy group have launched a campaign looking to garner support to keep it in the Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) might be one target. But aims include raising money and getting 2 million people to join an advocacy effort.

The wrestling governing body and the Committee to Preserve Olympic Wrestling (CPOW) have labeled the initiative: “2020 Vision: Wrestling, Keep the Dream Alive.” The IOC is moving to cut wrestling out of the 2020 summer event.

The campaign, with a “Keep the Dream Alive” tagline, includes TV PSAs as well as digital efforts, including using Facebook and Twitter. CPOW chairman Bill Scherr, an Olympic medalist, stated the campaign “serves as a rallying point under one mission both in the United States and around the world."

KOM Sports Marketing of Colorado Springs is behind the effort. USA Wrestling, part of the U.S. Olympic Committee, created CPOW.

Famed wrestlers Bruce Baumgartner and Dan Gable are involved with CPOW.
