Moving toward its singing competition final episodes, Fox's "American Idol" continues to build its usual end-of-the season viewership in mid-April.
However, it is still down significantly overall versus its viewing results of a year ago.
The hourlong "Idol" at 8 p.m. scored the best results of Thursday for broadcast networks posting a
Nielsen 3.1 rating/10 share among 18-49 viewing, up from a 2.9 rating a week ago.
Still, the second-best performer of the night, a rerun of CBS' "Big Bang Theory," also at 8 p.m., was just
two-tenths of a rating point behind "Idol" at a 2.9/10. "Bang" had been regularly beating "Idol" this season among key 18-49 viewers.
A special "Glee" episode concerning gunshots at a
school improved 20% to a 2.4 rating/6 share versus the week before, winning the 9 p.m. time period. Many networks were in repeats during the period -- except an original "The Office" from NBC, which
was at a 1.9/5, up one-tenth of a rating point from the week before.
One notable, NBC's new drama "Hannibal" at 10 p.m., earned a modest 1.6 rating/5 share -- the same as its premiere the
week before. The other networks -- CBS's "Elementary" at 1.4/4 and ABC's "Scandal" at 0.9/3 -- ran repeats during the period.
Fox won Thursday night overall with a 2.7/8, followed by CBS at
1.9/5; Univision with 1.6/5; NBC at 1.5/4; AB with 1.2/3; and CW at 0.3/1.
