In 2011, Miles Nadal, founding CEO of MDC Partners, was the highest-paid holding company chief in Adland. But he didn’t repeat as pay champ in
2012.
According to just filed MDC regulatory documents, Nadal received total compensation in 2012 of almost $9.3 million, down from nearly $24 million the year before.
The
difference was a much bigger stock award package in 2011 -- about $21.5 million, versus a $6 million stock award last year.
Among the holding companies so far reporting executive pay for
last year, Nadal is fourth-ranked. Ahead of him is Maurice Levy at $24.4 million, who will likely reign as compensation king for 2012. Most of Levy’s outsized paycheck was due to the $21 million
he received as part of a deferred pay program for the years 2003 to 2011.
Omnicom CEO John Wren received $14.8 million last year, which makes him second-ranked so far in pay among Adland
CEOs, while Interpublic Group CEO Michael Roth received $9.7 million, putting him in third place.
Still to report on executive pay for last year are WPP and Havas. WPP CEO Martin Sorrell
earned about $11 million in 2011, and there have been recent reports that he’s accepting a pay cut to appease investors who argue that his pay package is too high. The company declined to
comment on the matter.
David Jones, who became CEO of Havas in March 2011, received about $2.2 million in total remuneration that year. Last year was his first full year as company CEO.
