Moviegoers are watching trailers on PCs and mobile devices more than ever, according to the latest Nielsen NRG survey. More than half (53%) of moviegoers said they watched
previews on the desktop Web last year, up from 47% in 2010. Mobile viewing on previews increased to 15% from 6% in 2010, while tablets have jumped from to
8% from nothing in that period.
Yahoo Movies is the top site for catching trailer, with people watching 11.6 million videos in April, followed by IMDb (8.4 million), MSN
Movies (3.1 million), Fandango (2.8 million) and Flixster (1.1 million). People spent by far the most time on IMDb, at nine hours per viewer, followed by Flixster, at seven hours, 24 minutes, and
Yahoo, 6:36.
Movie-focused apps are also growing more popular. IMDb has seen app its number of app users jump 46.4% in the year ending April to 12.8 million, while
Fandango’s app has increased 26.1% to 5.4 million, and Flixster’s by 16.5% to 8.1 million. The figures are based on Android and iPhone owners
18 and over in the U.S.
