Twerk Your Booty MTV

Twerk Your Booty MTV

Condom maker Trojan had to feel pretty satisfied with its hookup with the VMA Awards Sunday night, given the show turned out to be a rating sensation. The numbers shot through the roof compared to the last year’s performance, the first year that MTV put condom ads in the awards show. This year, the advertiser had spots in every break. And with all that Twerking going on during the show, well, let’s just say it probably raised the excitability level of certain tuned-in audience members creating a compatible viewing environment for the sponsor’s messages. Of course, not everyone was thrilled with the content or the fact that condoms were part of the commercial rotation. Early out of the box with its grievance was the Parents Television Council. “MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars [read Miley Cyrus, top Twerker on this year’s show] and condom commercials -- while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable,” said PTC Director of Public Policy Dan Isett. Well, Dan, over 10 million highly-engaged fans said you were wrong. The horse is out of the barn on this one. The genie is out of the bottle. Pick your favorite cliché. There’s no there-there here. Or, as the Trojan ad proclaims, “It feels like nothing’s there!”
