Veronika Fuleova, Social Media Editor at Socialbakers, reports that Facebook updates perform differently depending on the day of the week they’re posted. She says that the search for the
ideal day to post on Facebook will never tire because brands will always be cautious about timing when it comes to reaching their audience. But to be frank, she says, there is no (overall) ideal day
for posting, as so many factors influence the level of engagement the content triggers.
The industry in which one operates, the market specifics, the nature of the product/service portfolio,
the demographic characteristics of the target audience, and things like the season of the year will inevitably have an impact on performance. For instance, facebook Fans start their week with cars.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn´t post content during the whole week, but it seems that Fans of car manufacturers love to start their week with cars.
Monday (11%) has the highest
Engagement Rate followed by Wednesday and Saturday both around (10%) in the “car Fan” industry. These Fans mainly interact with albums and photos because they love to see and admire the
cars in great visuals. And Sunday (09%) seems to be driving the least activity for these posts, while BMW drives the most action on Monday night.
In addition, the Facebook platform, as well as
the audience, are constantly evolving, so different studies conducted in different time ranges will showcase different results.
However, to see what brands are doing and how different
strategies work for them, the study analyzed 2,858,620 Facebook posts (from 23 000 brand pages) from April 30th to July 28th, 2013 in order to show you which day of the
week page administrators preferred for posting during this period, and which days of the week provided the biggest “Engagement Rate” potential.
Facebook Brand Post Distribution and Engagement Potential (Day of Week; August 2003; % of Respondents) |
Day of Week | % of Posts Created | Relative Probability
of Ranking Among 4,000 Most Engaging in the Sample |
Monday | 14.8% | 7.1% |
Tuesday | 16.6 | 0.2 |
Wednesday | 16.7 | 2.4 |
Thursday | 16.8 | -1.8 |
Friday | 17.1 | 2.6 |
Saturday | 9.9 | -12.1 |
Sunday | 8.2 | -5.3 |

The figures show that Page Admins prefer to post from Tuesday to Friday, and they often disregard Saturdays and Sundays. The results show that updates posted on
Monday have the biggest chance of ranking in the top 4,000 most engaging posts of that day, followed by Wednesday and Friday as strong days to reach out to fans. Weekends did not work out as well
for the studied brands, although low traffic usually translates into more interactions (Likes, Comments, and Shares).
In a similar recent study for Twitter, the results showed that weekends
were very promising in terms of Engagement Rate, says the report. Followers kept on retweeting and mentioning brands on Saturdays and Sundays, perhaps due to the lower traffic.
