ExxonMobile Sues Fox Over FXX Logo

Oil and game company ExxonMobil says the new Fox cable network FXX’s logo is too similar to its logo and filed a lawsuit, demanding, among other things, that the network stop using it.

Both the ExxonMobil and FXX logo feature “interlocking X’s” in their respective corporate graphics. Filing a lawsuit in Houston against the 21st Century Fox company -- the parent of FXX --  ExxonMobil says this violates the trademark law and is seeking triple damages.

Exxon has continuously used its logo since 1971. FXX is Fox’s new cable network targeting young males 18-34, which launched last month. The network replaced the Fox Soccer channel.

Exxon says the FXX logo can “cause confusion, to cause mistake, or to deceive customers and potential customers.” ExxonMobil says it look as if FXX is affiliated with Exxon.

One report says ExxonMobil contacted FXX to ask them to remove and stop using the interlocking FXX design, but they refused. In its filing, the company disclosed some digital messaging postings by individuals who notice the similarity between the two company’s logos.
