Wednesday was all things D-Day, as News Corp. shuttered the influential digital news brand, and relaunched it as The Wall Street Journal’s WSJD, a
new technology-focused hub that will expand the Journal’s coverage of digital media news and analysis. All Things D founders Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, meanwhile, tweeted New
Year’s greetings and officially unveiled plans to relaunch their brand of digital media news coverage as a new site called Re/code, in partnership with strategic investor NBCUniversal News
Group.
Re/code, which is operated by Revere Digital, a company that Mossberg and Swisher are co-CEOs of, said Windsor Media also joined as an investing partner.

The result is that two major media powerhouses -- News Corp.’s WSJ and NBCU News -- will be backing different horses in a race to own mass media exposure, if not thought leadership, on the subject of technology innovation and digital transformation for mainstream and business audiences.
As part of its partnership, NBCU said it would both provide both content and distribution for Re/code, a site about digital media that ironically doesn’t own that dot-com destination. Re/code is located at www.recode.net. Recode.com points to a YouTube video of a commercial for a failed dot-com era venture (Recode) that wanted to make a marketplace around consumers recoding their own UPC code data on supermarket products.
Adding further domain confusion to the situation, The Wall Street Journal said its new WSJD will be
located at wsj.com/tech, which it described as a new “technology section” that “vastly expands” on its digital industry coverage, citing a feature story about “25-year-old tech anarchist Cody Wilson” as a
prime example of what to expect.
The lead story on Re/code this morning was headlined, “Why Is Marc Andreessen Going Nutso On Twitter?”
Again?!
@j Neighbors: SOMEBODY has to cover the need to know stuff about about Twitter and numerous Yahoo home page redesigns !!!!
This IS good news. From their relaunch story#1's here's hoping they'll be heatedly competing for all the juiciest digital gossip and previous quarter innovation news for the investorpop crowd. I knew all those I <3 David Pogue t-shirts wouldn't go to waste. Pinch me!
