DataSift -- vaunted as one of the British tech industry’s best hopes for a blockbuster flotation -- is reeling after Twitter, the main source of data on which it built
its business, pulled the plug without warning. The pair were in negotiations to renew DataSift’s deal for wholesale access to the "firehose" of raw tweets when Twitter announced last week that
it will only sell the data direct via its own analysis arm. Twitter’s decision has prompted an angry reaction from DataSift’s founder and chief executive, Nick Halstead.
