Univision Axes Pageants After Trump's Mexican Remarks

Univision Communications, the Spanish-language network group, has ended its relationship with the Miss Universe Organization -- because of remarks made by Donald Trump’s about Mexican Americans.

A statement from Univision says the move was made “based on his recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants. At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country.”

The group adds: “We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.” Trump is a part-owner of the Miss Universe Organization.

The company did say its new division will continue to provide coverage of all U.S. presidential candidates, including Trump, who announced his efforts recently.

Trump announced his candidacy June 16.

In his speech, he said: "When Mexico sends its people they're not sending the best. They're not sending you, they're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems.”

He went on: “They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards, and they're telling us what we're getting."
