BBC Likely To Lose More Sports Rights To Commercial TV

The BBC is likely to have to lose more live sporting events as it tries to find an additional GBP550m in annual savings, according to the chair of the BBC Trust. Rona Fairhead told the Radio Times she was “sad” the BBC had lost the rights to broadcast events such as Formula One and the Olympics, but said more events could go. The BBC is looking to save GBP35m out of its sports budget this year, with a significant chunk coming from its decision in December to cut short its deal to broadcast F1 races three years early.
