JWT's "Rembrandt" Duplicates Feat, Wins Second Grand Prix

“The Next Rembrandt” project by J.Walter Thompson for ING won its second Grand Prix at Cannes, the latter being for the Cyber category.

The project, which earlier won a Creative Data Grand Prix, used data and technology to engineer Rembrandt’s precise technique digitally and with a 3-D printer created a Rembrandt-like portrait of a 17th century man.

In an unusual occurrence, two Grand Prix were issued in the Cyber category, the other being for an animated campaign from Leo Burnett Madrid called “Justino” to promote Spain’s annual Christmas Lottery. The animated tale, likened in quality to a Pixar film, recounts the story of an overnight security guard at a mannequin factory and how he interacts with the mannequins and factory workers.

Jury President, Chloe Gottlieb, SVP, Executive Creative Director, R/GA, said, "With Justino, we see magical storytelling that evolves and builds across social media, while The Next Rembrandt demonstrates how rather than an output, data and code can be the starting point for creativity."
