Epicurious Launches New Video, Recipe App

Epicurious, the digital flagship of Conde Nast’s Food Innovation Group, is making over a thousand new cooking videos available with the debut of the new “Epicurious Recipes & Food Videos,” a mobile app for the iPhone and iPad, the company announced Tuesday.

In addition to detailed videos, the free app offers users tips, curated recipe collections and holiday menus, along with a library of over 35,000 recipes. Epicurious will update the app daily with new content, as well as highlight special seasonal themes.

With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, at launch the app is showcasing a series titled “Three-Ingredient Thanksgiving,” with simple recipes for orange-sage turkey and caramel apple tart, one of ten new video series on the app. Overall the app will launch with 30 new videos in three days.

The new app has been updated to take advantage of changes in iOS: faster content delivery and a redesigned home screen and recipe search feature. It also makes it easier for cooks to access the recipe book and shopping list functions and include new features, such as an ingredients toggle, so users don’t have to scroll while cooking, a smart kitchen timer with cooking times for dozens of items, and a seasonal ingredients locator.

In visual terms, the app gives greater emphasis to Epicurious’ original food photography.

The launch of the new video and recipe app is being sponsored by cookware brand Calphalon, Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative, and Target.

FIG is betting on video as the future of food content.

Founded in 2014, last year FIG launched the new Food Innovation Group Video Network, which distributes mostly short-form digital video content covering a range of food-related subjects, drawing content from Bon Appétit and Epicurious, its online recipe hub, among other properties.
