Sometimes it's nice to just relax over the weekend and free your mind of all the insanities and idiotic behavior that's part and parcel of the advertising business. But no, thanks to a
Cadillac-related casting call, things became a little ugly this past weekend.
Apparently a casting agency, Chicago-based The Cast Station, placed an ad for "Real
Alt-Right people" to appear in undefined, upcoming work for Cadillac. A message accompanying the casting notice read: “This is a beautifully artistic spot that is capturing all walks of life of
America. Standing together as a union. This is not meant to be offensive in anyway. Just a representation of all sides. Thank you.”
The casting notice found its way to social media
and reaction to it was, predictably, harsh.
Cadillac responded with a post on Facebook which read: “Cadillac
did not authorize or approve a casting notice for an ‘alt-right (neo-nazi)’ role in a commercial. We unequivocally condemn the notice and are seeking immediate answers from our creative
agency, production company and any casting companies involved.”
It's unclear which, if any, of Cadillac's ad agencies were involved.
For its part, The Cast Station responded with a Facebook post which read: “The notice was drafted by an employee, who was
immediately terminated for her actions. Additionally an outside third party further altered the breakdown without our knowledge and posted it on social media. Cadillac unequivocally did not authorize
this notice or anything like it, and we apologize to Cadillac for the ex-employee’s actions.”
