Instagram Adds Stickers Feature

Surprising no one, Instagram just added several features that Snapchat users should find familiar.

Yep, just like with Snapchat’s geofilters, Instagram users can now augment their pictures and videos with customizable “Stickers” for weather, time of day, and physical location.

For the next few weeks, the Facebook unit is offering holiday-themed stickers, including a candy cane-colored drawing brush.

As for the customization part, users can move them around, make them bigger or smaller, and choose from different styles to match their present mood.

Also, a new hands-free option in the format picker encourages users to start recording a video with one tap.

The new offerings are just the latest attempt by Facebook to steal some of Snapchat’s popularity among younger users.

Just the other week, the social giant unveiled a new camera feature in Messenger -- complete with “art” and special effects for users to spice up their pictures.

Earlier this month, Facebook began giving select users the power to make photo frames for profile pictures. Featured on a new Camera Effects Web site, the service currently requires that frames be approved by Facebook.

In October, meanwhile, Facebook unveiled “masks,” which look very much like Snapchat’s animated lenses.

And, Facebook’s filtering ambitions don’t stop there. It recently partnered with Prisma, the Russian app that lets users “filter” social media in the style of artistic schools like Expressionism and Cubism.
