New roles were added to Southern lifestyle magazine brand
Garden & Gun and athlete-focused sports site
The Players’ Tribune.Garden & Gun has hired
its first CFO, Condé Nast vet Kevin Donovan. Donovan will be responsible for managing the financial planning of the
Garden & Gun brand. He previously spent 24 years at
Condé Nast, most recently as executive director of finance and operations for
Allure.
Garden & Gun covers the sporting culture, food, music, art, literature and people of
the South. Founded 10 years ago and based in Charleston, S.C., the brand claims to reach an audience of over 1.5 million.
Separately, The Players’ Tribune has also added a new
position, hiring its its first SVP of sales and brand partnerships.
Joe Carney will take on the role and work with advertising agencies and brands to create multiplatform content and custom
advertising experiences. He will also work with the executive team on The Players’ Tribune business strategy.

Previously, Carney served as VP of sales for Major League Baseball,
leading a team that managed sponsorship and media sales across MLB Network, MLB.com and offline channels.
In addition, he worked at National Football League as director of NFL.com media sales
to develop the monetization strategy for the site.
Jaymee Messler, president of The Players’ Tribune, stated that Carney will "help develop new and inventive ways to capitalize
on our premium content across all platforms as we aggressively look to expand our advertising strategy and drive revenue.”
Carney added his goal is to “develop first-to-market
programs for advertising partners that will truly break through.”

The Players’ Tribune secured $40 million in Series C financing to expand the site's video production, sales and editorial operations, as well as develop new distribution
and revenue opportunities.
