Snap Partners With Factual To Dig Deeper Into Location Data

Location data provider Factual on Tuesday announced a deal with Snap Inc., Snapchat’s parent company. Snap will have access to Factual’s data product, Global Places,  to power relevant experiences on its mobile app.

The announcement comes on the heels of an expansion of the partnership between Factual and Facebook just a few weeks ago. The trend suggests increased interest in harnessing location data for social media.

Snap, for that matter, has also been investing in location data, having bought Placed in early June.

“We believe location is an incredibly valuable signal and a core differentiator for mobile-based products, and will be more and more embraced by the best mobile companies,” wrote Rob Jonas, Factual's SVP of revenue, in a blog post on the company's Web site.

Global Places has data on over 100 million local businesses and points of interests in 52 countries.
