'Politico' Launches Legislative Tracking Tool, 'National Journal' Renames Roundtable

Politico has launched a legislative tracking tool for its subscribers called Legislative Compass.

Subscribers to Politico Pro, its premium policy-focused offering, will be able to use Legislative Compass to track and compare bills, receive alerts when actions occur on bills being tracked by the user, and compile all Politico Pro news about those bills in one place.

Legislative Compass tracks every bill, amendment and procedural motion on both floors of Congress, as well as legislation in all 50 state houses. The tool will also have a dedicated editorial team to analyze legislation.

In a statement, Politico Pro editor Marty Kady called Legislative Compass “an important enhancement to Politico’s state reporting ambitions.”

Politico Pro launched in 2011, four years after Politico, to focus on major policy areas. Annual subscriptions range in the thousands. Politico Pro covers 16 policy areas, including defense, education, energy and health care, for 25,000 subscribers around the world.

Separately, Atlantic Media’s National Journal is renaming Policy Brands Roundtable, its custom reputation management service for government affairs and communications professionals, to Ballast Research.

Ballast Research operates as an independent division of Atlantic Media’s National Journal Group.

National Journal president Kevin Turpin stated the service is on track to nearly double its revenue and client base in the last two years, making it one of Atlantic Media’s fastest-growing businesses.

Ballast advises corporations, trade associations and nonprofits on how to optimize advocacy investments to become more effective at informing policy outcomes.

Ballast’s core product is its Policy Brands Index, a reputational analysis of an organization’s strengths and influence in federal and state policy.
