Spectrum Works To Resolve Email Service Outages

Spectrum says it has solved the server problem that caused email and Internet outages last week, although some customers claim that their service is still down.

The lapses have mostly affected legacy Time Warner customers.

On Monday, complaints about Spectrum were posted on downdetector.com, incuding:

  • Roadrunner email server appears down, My OUTLOOK client can't connect as of about 11:15 PST TV and phone service seem okay.Torrance, CA
  • No cable tv and very very slow internet since Saturday due to Spectrum service outage on upper west side of Manhattan, NY. No phone for most of Saturday and Sunday. What's going on?
  • Internet been going on and of in Janesville WI area all morning. This is ridiculous. Some people work from home and need the internet jeeze.
  • No email in Upland CA for over 1 week. This is totally unacceptable!
  • Email servers down in san antonio
  • Internet down in Chelsea, NYC
  • No email on iPhone for 8 days now. I have given up. This is absolutely ridiculous.

A Charter spokesperson says, “Over the weekend, we resolved the issue of delayed email access affecting a very small percentage of TWC/BHN email addresses, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience."

The spokesperson adds: “This affected a very small percentage of legacy TWC and BHN email addresses on one mail server — our servers are capacity-based, not geography-based, which is why customers were affected in multiple cities. This did not affect Charter email addresses or customers who use unaffiliated email services.”

On Friday, News10NBC reported that Rochester realtor Lynn Persi went without email for four days, and only received a response from Spectrum after News10NBC consumer investigator Deanna Dewberry intervened.

Spectrum spokesperson Lara Prichard told News10NBC that "a small percentage of customers who use legacy TWC/BHN email (rr.com) are experiencing delayed or intermittent email access because of a specific server issue."

Pritchard added, "Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this completely as quickly as possible, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience."

Meanwhile, The Orange County Register reported last week that 13,000 comments had been posted about Spectrum on downdector.com last week, mostly over lack of Internet service.

According to the Register, Spectrum said on Wednesday that “our teams are working around the clock to resolve this

this completely as quickly as possible, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”  The company said that only a small percentage of customers were affected.

However, the Register wrote that “Spectrum may have understated its problem.”

Charter Communications acquired TWC Bright House Networks in May 2016 and changed the name to Spectrum, the Register continued.
