Yahoo Mail Suffers Service Outage, But Is Back Up

Yahoo Mail was down for hours on Thursday, but apparently is working again, according to Down Detector.

Users complained of being unable to log into their email accounts and to send and read mail. Heaviest hit were the United States and the UK, judging by the Down Detector outage map. Parts of Europe were also affected.

The number of reports spiked at noon on Thursday, but evened off after that.

Consumers griped on Down Detector not only about the outage, but also about Yahoo’s customer serivce. One wrote, “YAHOO!! WHAT IS GOING ON?? I been calling and they keep hanging up on me. Either my mail completely disappears as I'm reading it, or it'll close and End up in a random folder! This has been going on for a week!

Another, who also claimed to have been hung up on, wrote: “Closing my Yahoo account and getting one with Gmail is going to be a hassle but if this how Yahoo deals with a problem but not acknowledging it and its support hanging up when you ask...”

At least one commentator wondered if messages attmpted during the shutdown were “lost forever.”

An Oath spokesperson told Express.co.uk that the problem has been resolved.

Of the complaints received by Down Detector, 44% were for log-in problems, 29% for inability to send mail and 23% to read it.

Among the complaints was one saying that their Yahoo app had stopped alerting them when a new email came in, and another stating that service had been out in Topeka since 10:23 a.m. At least one writer mentioned the Yahoo security breaches.
