EU To File a Brief With High Court In Microsoft Privacy Case

The European Union is intervening in Microsoft’s email privacy case before the U.S. Supreme Court. The EU will submit an amicus brief to make sure that “EU data protection rules on international transfers are correctly understood and taken into account by the U.S. Supreme Court,” the European Commission said in a statement. The case concerns a lower court ruling that prevents prosecutors from gaining access to emails held by Microsoft on servers in Ireland. The U.S. Department of Justice has appealed that ruling.
