Former Opel CEO Joins Board Of Mobility Startup

Former Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann, who left the company in June following its sale from General Motors to PSA Group, has reemerged as a board member at Door2door.

With over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, Neumann also served as CEO of Continental and held various executive positions at GM and Volkswagen. There were reports when he left Opel that he was being considered to replace embattled Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, but that did not come to fruition.

The move represents a major pivot for Neumann from traditional automotive towards emerging urban mobility solutions — making it one of the most significant transitions of a leading executive from established car companies to an innovative mobility startup, according to Door2door. Neumann will also be investing in the company.

“Door2door is a groundbreaking company aimed at achieving the kind of disruptive innovation that’s driving the mobility industry forward,” said Neumann in a release. “Door2door has a real opportunity to drastically improve the way we get around in cities across the globe, and I’m looking forward to helping their remarkable team unlock new possibilities for a real mobility revolution. Almost every other industry is being disrupted by technology — it’s time for public transportation to get in gear as well.”

Also joining the board is Ariel Luedi, former CEO of software company SAP hybris. Luedi was responsible for the company’s significant growth and global expansion. He is a 20-year veteran of the enterprise software sector.

Founded in 2012, Door2door is a global provider of dynamic mobility solutions for public transportation. The company provides cities and mass transport companies with an on-demand mobility platform that enables micro-transit rideshare shuttle systems which can be integrated into any existing mass transport network. Door2door has been named “European Entrepreneurial Company of the Year” by Frost & Sullivan.
