Valimail has launched a cloud-based email authentication platform that it says can improve delivery while protecting firms from fraudulent emails.
IDEA (Identity-Driven Email
Anti-impersonation) automates DMARC (Domain Message Authentication Reporting And Confirmation) implementation and other functions without requiring IT involvement or manual effort, the company
says. It fuels two existing products: Valimail Enforce and Valimail Deliver (previously known as Valimail SPF0. l
“Email authentication is critical because the
vast majority of cyberattacks start with phishing emails, and the most common and most effective technique used by phishers is impersonation of trusted senders," says Alexander García-Tobar,
CEO and co-founder of Valimai.
He adds, "Traditional defenses, like malware filtering and secure email gateways, are a critical layer, but don’t address these impersonation attacks. If
domain owners implement automated email authentication and set it to an enforcement policy, they can authoritatively shut down a primary vector for cyberattacks and digital fraud.”
According to Valimail, the product is designed to help companies:
Stop impersonation attacks, improve email deliverability and protect a company’s brand.
Cope with
the technical challenges of deploying email authentication.
Prevent exposure of personally identifiable information (PII), in compliance with GDPR.
Authenticate authorized email
services while blocking malicious messages.
To achieve the above, the enhanced product combines five branded features, Valimail continues:
Authenticator provides responses to
email authentication queries based on the domain owner’s policy.
Service Identifier distinguishes and identifies well-known email senders and smaller SaaS apps that may be more difficult
to detect because they use multi-tenant email cloud infrastructures provided by ESPs, Valimail says.
Enforcement Controller allows domain owners to define the list of sources that
can send email on their domain's behalf, while blocking other email.
Threat Intelligence analyzes numerous sources of data, including DMARC aggregate reports and billions of email
authentication queries, to assess threats.
Analytics Service provides domain owners with views of their email ecosystems and the ability to focus on areas of interest.
IDEA runs
on an Amazon Web Services infrastructure. In line with industry best practices, it encrypts all data at rest and in transit, the company says.
According to Valimail, over 76% of
mailboxes worldwide use DMARC to check incoming mail. Companies that embrace DMARC enjoy deliverability rates and brand safeguards from phishers seeking to use their domain names, and are protected
against fraudulent email, the firm adds.
