Former YouTube Exec Raises $50M To Fund Content Creators

Former YouTube executive Ben Grubbs is launching a new company, Next 10 Ventures, with the goal of funding the next generation of content creators on YouTube and other video platforms.

In interviews this week, Grubbs said his company has raised $50 million from investors. Initially the firm will focus on the North America and Asia-Pacific regions, launching first with creators developing content in the kids, education and young adult categories.

Until early this year, Grubbs served as the global head of creator partnerships for YouTube, a role which required him to form relationships with up-and-coming talent. Former Cartoon Network executive Paul Condolora will be the COO of Next 10 Ventures.

YouTube highlighted its educational videos at its newfront presentation earlier this month, with CEO Susan Wojcicki telling the crowd growing that space was a top priority for the company. Kids content, likewise, is seen as a major opportunity for free video services like YouTube, though concerns about brand safety have affected the YouTube Kids app.
