Yahoo Mail Upgrades Its Mobile Web App, Android Go

Yahoo Mail has streamlined its mobile web app to make it easy for consumers to use Yahoo Mail on their smartphones. In addition, it has updated its Android Go app, adding features, such as swipe and delete.

“Try the lightweight version of our top-rated email app!,” Yahoo Mail urges in a post. “It’s the best email app to easily organize your Gmail, Outlook (Hotmail), AOL and Yahoo accounts.

The post continues: “Regardless of your email address, you can experience the Yahoo Mail app's beautiful design, easy-to-use interface and lightning fast speed. Plus, Yahoo Mail offers 1000 GB of free secure cloud storage, so you never have to worry about space again."

Yahoo Mail reportedly has an estimated 230 million users, placing it far behind Gmail and its 1.4 billion users.

The Android Go feature is designed for cheaper handsets, marking an effort to reach a lower-end market, according to reports.

SlashGear writes that “the new Yahoo Mail Go is a lightweight version of Yahoo Mail that requires less than 10MB of install space and uses less than 50MB of RAM. However, it's built with the same architecture and has many of the same features of the full app.”

It notes the only major difference in Android Go is that “it cuts back on RAM, data usage, and install size."

Android Police writes that “this improved web interface has been rebuilt from the ground up to be interactive and instant — no more reloads for every action. It's also designed to offer a similar experience to the full app, whether in looks or in features.”

The Android Police review adds: “Infinite scroll for emails, a side menu with all the folders, quick actions for a chosen email, customizable swipe actions, multiple themes, suggestions for frequent contacts, and more contribute to that effect.”
