Richard Harris has been named CEO of SparkPost, the cloud email API service provider, replacing departing Phillip Merrick, the firm announced Tuesday morning.
Harris previously served as group vice president of Oracle’s date cloud business unit, responsible for its international operations. Prior to that, he was CEO of AddThis, leading the firm through its acquisition by Oracle.
Merrick is leaving to focus on building early stage companies. Under his leadership, SparkPost transitioned to a cloud technology architecture, and achieved gains in revenue and email volume, the firm says.
“I am grateful to Phillip for his leadership of SparkPost over the past four years,” states George Schlossnagle, SparkPost founder and chief technology officer.
Schlossnagle adds that “our team is eager to work with Rich through the next stage of our company’s growth.”
SparkPost says it sends over 3 trillion messages a year, serving such customers as Zillow, Intercom, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn, Comcast, Oracle, and The New York Times.
