YouTube is
starting to roll out its Copyright Match tool to creators with more than 100,000 subscribers on their channels.
Copyright Match scans uploaded videos and determines whether they are
being uploaded for the first time. If the same (or similar) videos are subsequently uploaded later by different users, the tool will let the original publisher contact the other creator, request that
the identical video be removed, or do nothing at all.
YouTube officially announced the tool earlier this year, but is just now beginning the full roll-out process. While channels
with more than 100,000 subscribers will get the tool first, others will follow in the coming months.
Copyright Match will live alongside YouTube’s Content ID tool, which
aims to identify copyrighted material that has been uploaded to the platform. Copyright Match is designed to identify content from popular creators that is simply reloaded by other
channels.
