Mimecast Limited, an email and data security company, has expanded into the web field by releasing Mimecast Domain Name System (DNS) Security Gateway.
Available to existing Mimecast clients
following a successful beta test, the product protects firms against malicious activity initiated by user action or malware, the company claims.
It also blocks access to websites that
companies deem unsafe or inappropriate, Mimecast adds.
Like Mimecast’s, Email Secure Gateway, the new service, relies on Mime|OS, Mimecast’s operating system. It is also supported
by the company’s security team and analytics, Mimecast says.

"A vast proportion of security incidents occur via email or the web, and DNS requests make up a large portion of the associated web
activity,” states Christina Van Houten, Chief Strategy Officer at Mimecast.
Mimecast, which serves more than 30,000 customers worldwide, recently acquired Ataata Inc., a cyber-security
training platform designed to help firms combat data breaches caused by employee mistakes.
