All employees of the Starbucks store in Washington, D.C. are proficient in America Sign Language. It is just down the street from Gallaudet University, the world’s only university designed to
educate deaf and hard of hearing students. Employees are a combination of hearing, hard of hearing and deaf. "The store itself was designed with accessibility in mind, with more open space, anti-glare
surfaces, and visual displays for customers to check and pick up orders," according to
Chain Store Age.
