McDonald's Celebrates Web 'Hamburger' Menu Designer Norm Cox

Over three decades ago, Norm Cox made internet history by creating an icon with three horizontal bars to simplify a website’s drop-down menu. It was dubbed the “Hamburger Menu.”

Now, McDonald’s is celebrating the feat with a one-day activation today (Dec. 3), which is Cox’s birthday. He turns 67.

Working with its creative shop We Are Unlimited, McD’s has updated the look of the hamburger icon for the activation to resemble a McDonald’s burger. Customers can order a burger through a Hamburger Menu featured on the mobile versions of Reddit.com and McDonalds.com

As part of the activation, Reddit's mascot Snoo has been transformed online into the “Hamburgler.” Reddit.com’s "Hamburger Menu" will look like an actual burger.

Also, McDonald's will post unique content throughout the day and is sponsoring Reddit's Ask Me Anything session featuring Cox at 3 p.m. (ET).

McDonald's is only the third brand that Reddit has allowed to change the look of its Snoo mascot for a marketing event.
