It is common knowledge that smart speakers are quite a big deal in the interactive marketplace, and now yet another study confirms that smart speakers are a significant component of the smart home.
About 53 million people in the U.S. now own a smart speaker -- including 14 million new owners in 2018 -- according to the study, comprising a telephone survey of 1,000 U.S. adults by National Public Radio and Edison Research.
Of speaker owners, the majority (52%) of consumers own two or more, with 30% of them owning three or more.
The growth of smart speakers in U.S. households grew 78% in a year, according to the survey.
The holidays also were good for smart speakers, with 8% of people in the U.S. getting smart speaker during that time.
Those smart speakers are not just sitting on a shelf. The majority (53%) of consumers use them nearly every day or several times a day.
A side benefit of smart speaker growth is awareness. Most (77%) of consumers are now aware of smart speakers.
That awareness is likely to lead to even more smart speaker sales and adoption.
