Microsoft Email Slowdown Enters Second Day

An email service outage affecting Microsoft 365 users entered its second day on Friday, with reports coming in from locations as far afield as Florida and Pakistan.

However, the problem seemed less intense than it did on Thursday, and Microsoft said it is working on the issue.

Of reports coming in to downdetector on Friday, 39% were about Outlook. Another 36% were related to internet connectivity and 25% were related to Exchange.

“Symptoms: Slow e-mail sending and receiving (more than 3 hours). Receiving several repeated e-mails,” wrote one user in a post on Friday.

“7 hours ago Still intermittent then it sends emails 10 times here in Ascot / London, we also had no service all of yesterday,” wrote another.

Other posts came from users in the United States, Beirut and other locations.

A Friday morning status report by Microsoft states: “Telemetry data is indicating connection time outs within the Exchange authentication infrastructure, resulting in impact” according to Computer Business Review.

"We’re working to resolve difficulties a limited subset of enterprise customers in Europe are experiencing when attempting to access Exchange Online. Consumers are not affected. Admins can find status updates on the Admin Center,” the report continues.

On Thursday, the outages were heaviest in the UK and Northern Europe, with some problems in the Northeast and West Coast of the U.S., according to the downdetector map.
